Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy can benefit anyone and not just for those experiencing distress. Many people seek therapy to enrich their lives, improve their relationships, cultivate self-awareness, and foster personal growth. If you want to improve your sense of well-being, navigate life’s ups and downs, or desire a deeper understanding of yourself and others, psychotherapy offers you a safe, supportive environment to explore your behaviours, feelings, thoughts and relationships.

Important psychotherapeutic tools include dialogue between therapist and patient, which focuses on feelings, thoughts and behaviours as a target for change and somatic practices, which utilise mind-body techniques to release tension and trauma that may be impacting on your emotional and physical well-being, for example, breathing exercises, mindfulness or meditation, and body movement. However, the best therapeutic approach for you must be tailored to your unique situation and needs.

We use the following evidence-based psychotherapies:

  • Brief Psychodynamic Therapy focuses on increasing awareness and insight into how our early or past experiences influence out current functioning. Therapy typically explores associations, feelings, thoughts, and behaviours to develop more effective functioning.

  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a strength-based approach focusing on identifying possible solutions to immediate challenges and doing what works to develop more effective functioning.

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) focuses on developing healthier coping strategies for dealing with emotional distress, emotional regulation, and effective engagement with others. These strategies enable clients to live more fully in the present instead of firing the future of being pre-occupied by the past.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) focuses on empowering clients to accept difficult thoughts, feelings, sensations, and internal experiences while staying true to their own values.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) focuses on helping clients heal their wounded inner parts and to become a more integrated version of themselves.

  • Family Systems Therapy focuses on improving relationships and communication within a family unit by addressing how each member’s behaviour affects the group dynamic to promote cooperation, personal and collective healing, and healthier interactions.

  • Couples therapy helps partners improve their communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen their emotional bond by addressing any underlying issues and unhealthy relationship patterns to foster a more balanced, connected, fulfilling, loving, and supportive partnership.

  • Attachment-Focused Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy - is a clinically proven approach to help individuals heal from trauma and distressing life experiences. Using guided eye movements and other forms of bilateral stimulation (BLS), this technique accelerates the brain’s ability to process information so as to foster lasting emotional well-being and improved quality of life.
